Tracey Neville believes England Roses can win gold at Commonwealth Games

Tracey Neville says her England Roses side are in a "really good place" as they aim to win Commonwealth Games gold for the first time on the Gold Coast.

The Roses finished in fourth place at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and have won three bronze medals since the sport was introduced to the Games in 1998, but have yet to reach the final, which is something Neville is determined to achieve this time around.

"The million dollar question is where do we think England will finish? I do feel that we're in a really good place as a country and as a group of players going into the Commonwealth Games," Neville told SportNews.

"Obviously, the gold medal is the one that everybody wants and the one we all want to achieve. For me, it's about getting in that final because if we're in it, we're in it to win it."

Geva Mentor, Jade Clarke, as well as captain Ama Agbeze, Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Jo Harten make up an experienced squad for the tournament, and Neville believes her side has a mixture of every element needed to go the distance.

"One of the most toughest things within selection - which was very tough - was looking at players who offered us some versatility and players that has excelled over the international calendar," said the former Manchester Thunder head coach.

"That international period was a key point for us about how we formed relationships between units, how the team worked on the court, how the team worked off the court.

"This squad we feel is the best squad to offer us, and tick all the boxes, going into the Commonwealth Games."

England sealed their best finish in a Quad Series after beating South Africa and New Zealand to finish as runners-up to Australia earlier this year.

"One of the greatest learnings we had was how we gritted out performances. We talked to the squad quite highly about winning," added Neville.

"I think one of the learning things we really need to work on is back to back performances coming off a really tough win, which we did against New Zealand. And I felt that we under-performed against Australia and that is something our coaching team will be looking at going into our preparation camp in Sydney."

At the 2018 Games, Team England have been drawn in Pool B alongside New Zealand, Malawi, Wales, Scotland and Uganda.

The group stage of the competition will take place from April 5-12 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. The finals will then be played on April 14-15 at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.
